Family information

EUSTACE FAMILIES ASSOCIATION

July 17, 2006

Dear Cousins and Namesakes,
For the past 30 years, various family members have researched the Eustace name and variations. The Eustace Families Post, a semi-annual newsletter has been published since 1976. Our latest project is a Eustace/Eustis/Eustice surname Y Chromosome DNA study which has been organized by Maurice Eustice of Cheboygan, Michigan and Ronald Eustice of Savage, Minnesota. The study is motivated by prior research that was successfully conducted with other surnames and will likely provide evidence to help track the family migration from Cornish, English or Irish roots. The key is to produce Y-chromosome profiles from a wide variation of male Eustace/Eustice/Eustis and determine how many different lines we have. We can then use the genetic information to corroborate the genealogical research that has been done and possibly open more doors for further research.

The Y chromosome is passed relatively unchanged from father to son and only appears in males. This makes it suited for study in surname projects. If you are a male surnamed Eustace or variants, or know of such a person, and you would be interested in participating or sponsoring someone in the study, please participate in this study. The more samples we get, the more information we may learn about the origins of our surname.

There are three tests available for the Y chromosome however we are using a 16 marker test which is normally available for $100 to $125 per sample. We have been able to negotiate a special rate of US $75.00 per sample to complete this study. The Y-chromosome test does not, in any way, indicate any medical conditions. We realize that privacy of your information may be a concern. The lab has indicated that the DNA samples submitted for testing are the property of the person submitting the sample and at no time will the DNA profile or the actual DNA be shared with anyone. DNA profiles will be depicted as “Line A” or “Line B” and only the person being tested will know which line they are in. Sharing among others in the family will be at your sole decision.

We need volunteers from all branches including but not limited to Eustace, Eustance, Eustice, Eustis/Stacy, and Heustis lines from the following regions.
